The Coconuts Boat Ramp, tucked away along the Esplanade in the coastal village of Coconuts (yes, that’s really the name!) of the Cassowary Coast Region, is a handy little launch spot for locals and visitors alike. It’s a two-lane concrete ramp with a small pontoon next to it, launching, loading, and retrieving your boat super easy.
This ramp drops you right into the mouth of the Johnstone River, which is great if you’ve got a small boat and are keen to do a bit of fishing. The area’s known for decent fishing and some pretty scenic views, but just a heads-up: this is croc country. Always stay croc-wise and play it safe. That means, swimming is not allowed here, no matter how inviting the water is.
There’s a small car park right next to the ramp, with space for your car and trailer. You’ll find a freshwater tap for rinsing down your gear, but there are no toilets on-site, so plan ahead. However, one advantage of the ramp is that it's lit at night and there are security cameras around, so launching after dark is doable.
There’s also a boat yard nearby if you need a hand with maintenance or storage. Overall, it’s a chill spot to hang out, cast a line, and enjoy some time by the water... just keep an eye out for the local crocs!
