The single-lane concrete boat ramp at Coochin Creek is tucked away in a peaceful, quiet area which is a real break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
If you're into fishing, this spot gives you easy access to the upper reaches of the creek, and it’s a great place to launch a kayak or a small boat or just enjoy the scenery within the area.
The creek winds through some beautiful natural surroundings, and the fishing's not bad either. You might hook a bream, mangrove jack, flathead, or even a mud crab... and if you're lucky, maybe a bull shark!
Parking is limited, but it’s usually pretty quiet, so you won’t be fighting for a spot. There’s also a campground a few metres away from the ramp, located along Roys Road, a short drive off from the Pacific Highway, if you want to turn your day trip into an overnighter; just make sure to book ahead through Queensland National Parks. The camping area has flushing toilets, grassy areas, and a vehicle parking bay. There are dedicated sites for different types of recreational vehicles.
One thing to keep in mind: there are no facilities at this boat ramp. No toilets, no bins, not even a tap. So come prepared, and definitely bring insect repellent because the mozzies can be relentless.
And while you’re here, do the right thing and take your rubbish with you — leave the place better than you found it. All in all, the Coochin Creek boat ramp is a great little launch spot. It’s simple, quiet, and surrounded by nature. You can bring the family along, just be mindful of the environment and the local wildlife. If you’re looking for a low-key place to fish and unwind, it’s definitely worth checking out.
