The Deception Bay Boat Ramp features 3 separate boat ramps along the Bay. First is located at Captain Cook Parade, next to Wallin Family Place Park (see first picture above), offers a single-lane ramp leading onto a muddy sand bottom. Being a highly tidal area, the water can sit quite far from the ramp at low tide, so plan accordingly. High tides bring their own challenges; waves can affect launching, and the ramp narrows partway down, with the start of the narrower section sometimes hidden beneath the water.
Parking is limited here, and there’s no space for trailers. The park itself, however, is welcoming, with lighting, picnic tables, and seating, perfect for a quick break or a relaxed outing.
A short drive along Esplanade Road, across from Balmoral Place, you'll find another single-lane ramp (see second picture above). This one is best used at high tide, as low tide leaves about 100 metres of mud and sand to cross before reaching the water. Dogs love this spot at low tide, splashing in the shallow water and running along the sand. Like the Captain Cook Parade ramp, parking is limited, and there’s no trailer parking, but you will find a fish cleaning table, security cameras, and lighting for added convenience.
Just a few metres away, across Beaufort Place, is a third single-lane ramp. High tide is again the key here, perfect for launching small boats or letting your dogs enjoy a swim. Low tide exposes a long stretch of mud, so boaters will want to time their visit carefully. Unlike the previous ramps, this one offers limited trailer parking and also features a toilet block for added convenience.
For those visiting without a boat, the area is a peaceful stretch of pathway with lovely water views. Keep an eye out for local wildlife; you might spot pelicans gliding overhead or black swans drifting along the water. This is a great area for an outdoor lunch, long walks along the beach alone, with companions, or with your doggies.
