The Dundee Downs Boat Ramp is a handy two-lane concrete ramp, but just a heads-up: you’ll need at least a 3-metre tide to launch safely. Low tide can make things pretty tricky, so it’s definitely worth checking the tide charts before you head out. For those chasing barra, this spot is known to deliver, with plenty of action in the surrounding waters.
There’s also a bit of buzz around the Dundee Beach area, with ongoing upgrades happening to the boat ramp groyne. The last big upgrade was back in 2016–2017, and now construction is underway again to make things even better for local and visiting fishos. Once it’s all wrapped up, anglers, whether on foot or in boats, can look forward to a much-improved fishing experience.
The current works include a new walkway jetty right next to the ramp, better access to the groyne with a designated fishing platform, and the option to moor boats short-term so you can load and unload without holding up others. The upgrades are also designed to reduce maintenance needs, which means fewer disruptions down the track.
There is traffic management in place to keep things running smoothly and safely, including signage to guide visitors to temporary parking while construction continues. Speaking of parking, the area around the ramp has a good-sized carpark with space for car and trailer setups.
Just keep in mind, there aren’t any amenities on-site at the moment, so plan ahead and bring your own supplies and gear up before you go.
Once complete, though, this ramp is shaping up to be a top-notch spot for anyone keen to get out on the water and make the most of what the Northern Territory has to offer.
