Update as of 7/15/2025: Boating access at Waranga Basin has just gotten better, with the popular high-level boat ramp at Harriman Point recently extended for improved usability.
It should be known that Harriman Point Reserve is home to two ramps; the larger high-water ramp has now been extended by around 15 metres with the addition of two new sections of grooved concrete at its base.
While the ramp was originally installed during a major upgrade in 2022, high water levels at the time meant the full length couldn’t be completed. Thanks to lower water earlier this year, the Goulburn-Murray Water was able to finish the job.
With this update, both ramps now complement each other in terms of access. The high-level ramp works best when water levels are above 40%, while the smaller, low-level ramp is ideal when levels drop below that mark.
Harriman Point is well-equipped with a Boating Vic camera so you can check live conditions before heading out. You can download the Boating Vic app on App Store or Play Store to view the live camera feed for the boat ramp you plan to visit.
The Harriman Point Boat Ramp, located on the shores of Waranga Basin (Victoria’s fourth-largest inland waterway), features a well-built double-lane concrete ramp that makes launching boats easy and efficient. While the ramp itself is convenient, the surrounding area is quite exposed, and conditions can become challenging on windy days when the water gets rough.
There’s plenty of parking available near the ramp, with space for cars and trailers. Fishers can enjoy the waters casting a line for species like golden perch, redfin, trout, Murray cod, and even the occasional carp.
Waranga Basin is a popular spot for boating, jet skiing, and waterskiing, and it also caters well to families and nature lovers. The area offers a range of outdoor activities including bushwalking, birdwatching, kite flying, cycling, and horse riding. For those wanting to extend their stay, camping options such as a nearby caravan park are available, along with scattered amenities like picnic areas, BBQs, a playground, and public toilets.
Conveniently, Harriman Point is only a 10-minute drive from the township of Rushworth, where you can find shops and supplies to round out your trip.
