Hays Landing Boat Ramp, located on Lake Wivenhoe, features a long single-lane concrete ramp, ideal for launching trailer boats, kayaks, or paddle boards. The lake has a 6-knot speed limit, making it a calm and safe environment for all types of low-speed watercraft.

This spot is known not only for its great fishing but also for its scenic appeal. It’s a popular place for a quiet afternoon picnic, particularly around sunset, when the lake and surrounding landscape are bathed in soft light. With sweeping water views and peaceful surroundings, it's a great setting to unwind.
The area offers generous parking, including space for trailers, and facilities are well-maintained. You’ll find clean BBQ stations, covered picnic tables, and open lawn areas, which are all perfect for relaxed gatherings with family and friends. Toilets are located near the entrance and are kept in good condition.
Kangaroos, koalas, and a variety of birdlife are often spotted nearby, and the site is known for being exceptionally peaceful, particularly on weekdays.
It’s also a fantastic location for astrophotography and landscape photography, with misty mornings in the cooler months offering dramatic lighting and tranquil scenes.
Take note that camping isn’t permitted here. The gates close in the late afternoon (typically around 5–6 pm), with rangers on site to ensure visitors exit on time.
Lake Wivenhoe itself is South East Queensland’s largest water reservoir and serves as the main water source for Brisbane and Ipswich. Despite its popularity, the lake’s size means it’s easy to find a quiet bay all to yourself.
