If you're heading out
for a day on the water in southwest Victoria, the Killarney Beach Boat Ramp is
a great spot to launch. Tucked into the quiet village of Killarney, this
single-lane sandy ramp gives you access to Killarney Lagoon, the Southern
Ocean, and some awesome inshore reefs. It’s a go-to for local fishers and
boating enthusiasts alike.
The ramp is well-kept,
but since it’s a bit exposed to the ocean; there can be strong coastal winds,
it’s best to double-check the weather before heading out; especially if things
are looking a bit wild.
Parking’s pretty easy
with a spacious lot for trailers and cars, though it can fill up fast when the
weather’s nice. There are picnic benches right by the ramp, so you can relax
and enjoy the view while you wait your turn.
Fishing on the waters
is top-notch since you’re in for a good chance of landing snapper, whiting,
flathead, and even gummy shark. Whether you’re in it for the thrill or just
want to reel in dinner, these waters won’t disappoint.
The beach itself is a
lovely, narrow stretch of protected sand; perfect for a relaxing day by the
water. It’s calm most of the time thanks to the offshore reefs, and you’ll find
plenty of space to picnic or even camp out.
Need a place to stay?
The nearby Killarney Caravan Park has you covered. It’s got 15 powered and 53
unpowered sites, a kids’ playground, BBQ spots, a big open oval, and laundry
facilities, and it’s pet-friendly too. Just note the water there is non-potable,
so bring your own drinking water.
