Lake Cressbrook Boat Ramp

Lake Cressbrook is a relaxing spot just 50km from Toowoomba and only about 15 minutes from Crows Nest. As you drive in, just keep heading straight after the boom gates, and you’ll find the boat ramps right near the main recreational area.

There are two ramps within metres of each other and each is a single-lane concrete setup that’s perfect for launching small boats. Even when the water levels are a bit low, it’s still totally usable. Fishing can be hit or miss, but on a good day, you’ll be glad you brought your rod.

You can use outboard motors here but just keep in mind the local speed rules: 4 knots close to shore and 8 knots a bit further out. These limits are all about keeping things safe for everyone and protecting the lake from erosion since it’s part of Toowoomba’s water supply.

There’s more to do than just boating too. Canoeing and sailing are allowed, but swimming isn’t, so leave the floaties at home. If you're planning to fish, make sure you’ve sorted your permit with the state government ahead of time.

Lake Cressbrook’s not just about water activities either, the area’s also great for a picnic or a weekend camping trip. The “day use area” is open daily from 6am to 8pm during the warmer months (September to April), and from 7am to 6 pm through winter (May to August). Water activities are not allowed at that time, even if you’re camping.

If you’re staying the night, the campground is right by the lake on the western side of the day area and the ramps. There are more than 30 unpowered sites, and six of them are suitable for campervans, vans, and caravans. Everyone has access to toilets, showers, and a handy camp kitchen that comes with BBQ grills, tables, a sink, and even power for your cooking gear. There are rubbish bins to keep things tidy, and regular staff patrols make it feel nice and secure.

One thing to remember: if you’re planning a campfire, you’ll need to bring your own firewood. It’s not supplied, and collecting from around the area isn’t allowed.

All up, Lake Cressbrook is a lovely place for families, mates, or solo adventurers looking for a peaceful day or weekend out. Whether you're on the water or relaxing by the shore, it’s an easy getaway that’s close to home but feels like a proper escape.
