Keepit Dam is located around 40 kilometres north-east of Gunnedah and 55 kilometres north-west of Tamworth, in the north-west slopes region of the NSW Northern Tablelands. For visitors travelling from Sydney, Tamworth sits roughly 400 kilometres north via the Pacific and New England Highways.
Situated within the Reflections Holiday Park, the Keepit Dam boat ramp is a well-maintained single-lane concrete ramp offering reliable access to the water year-round. The ramp has a good slope for launching and very little moss, making it relatively easy to use in most conditions. There’s also a convenient turnaround bay and a small basic jetty with access on both sides beside the ramp.
Keepit Dam has become a popular inland destination for boating, fishing, and outdoor recreation, attracting visitors throughout the year. The area caters to a wide range of activities, including water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, canoeing, swimming, and bushwalking, while the surrounding foreshores provide plenty of scenic spots for camping and picnicking. Amenities include BBQ areas, fish cleaning facilities, boat wash station, kids' playground, camp kitchen, a canteen, fuel kiosk, toilets, and camping accommodations.
Accommodation options around the lake vary from cabins and permanent tents through to powered and unpowered caravan and camping sites, making it suitable for both short stays and longer getaways. The lake is also home to the NSW Sport and Recreation Centre, along with the Lake Keepit Sailing Club located near the dam wall.
Fishing is one of the major drawcards at Keepit Dam, with anglers regularly targeting golden perch (yellow belly), silver perch, and Murray cod. Boats are also available for hire, making it easy for visitors to get out and explore the water even if they’re travelling without their own vessel.
