The Lake Meadowbank Boat Ramp, found along the Lyell Highway between Hamilton and Ouse, is a scenic spot just an hour northwest of Hobart. Nestled at the eastern end of Dunrobin Bridge, the site features a well-built single-lane concrete ramp with a small walkway for easy launching.
Boaters are reminded to keep to the 5-knot speed limit north of the bridge and to avoid the designated no-boating zones near Meadowbank and Cluny Dams. The area promotes minimal-impact boating to help preserve the lake’s pristine environment. With calm waters and plenty of parking for cars and trailers, the ramp provides excellent access for boats of various sizes.
As the most downstream lake in the Derwent River hydro-scheme, Lake Meadowbank is a popular choice for both fishing and water-based recreation.
Anglers can look forward to casting for brown trout or chasing the occasional larger rainbow trout using fly, spin, or trolling techniques. The lake is also a favourite among water skiers, canoeists, and swimmers, making it an ideal location for a relaxed camping trip by the water.
Facilities on the eastern shore include picnic areas, public toilets, and clean, accessible amenities with features such as change tables and disability-friendly facilities. The surroundings are peaceful and picturesque, especially in autumn when the landscape is at its most colourful.
Whether you’re fishing, paddling, or simply enjoying a picnic by the water, Lake Meadowbank offers a tranquil escape and a perfect setting for a day outdoors.
