If you're looking for a chilled-out spot to launch your boat, the Maaroom Boat Ramp is at the end of Granville Road in the little fishing village of Maaroom, right on the Great Sandy Strait in Queensland. It’s a solid all-weather, four-lane ramp with a pontoon for easy docking and unloading. The pontoon is a great spot to fish on, too.
The ramp itself is nice and sheltered, but it’s really only good for heading out into the Strait during the top half of the tide. So make sure you keep an eye on the tides. It gets super shallow and narrow at low tide, so it’s definitely a "time your trip right" kind of place.
If you’re into crabbing, you’re in luck since this creek is a hotspot!
Pro tip: skip the little creek to the right of the ramp as it can get pretty crowded. You’ll find way better spots out around the islands.
There’s plenty to do besides boating; think fishing, crabbing, and spotting all kinds of birds and marine life. Plus, there’s heaps of parking for cars and trailers, so no stress there.
Right next to the ramp is a sweet little foreshore park with grassy areas, big shady trees, BBQs, and a nice playground by the water. Toilets, beach showers, covered picnic tables... they are all super clean and well-kept. Perfect for a picnic while you wait for the tide to turn. Just bring your bug spray unless you want to be covered in mosquito bites! Plus, you'll probably spot a few kangaroos bouncing around too.
If you’re staying a while, the Maaroom Caravan Park is just 400 meters from the ramp. It’s got powered and drive-through sites, a saltwater pool to cool off in, and a handy little shop for all your essentials. This ramp is the perfect laid-back base for a fishing and boating getaway with the views of Fraser Island from here being pretty awesome.
