Marton Boat Ramp, Cooktown

Located on Ida Street in Cooktown, the Marton Boat Ramp provides access to the scenic Endeavour River via a single-lane concrete ramp. Positioned slightly upstream, it’s a great launch point for those wanting to explore the quieter and more peaceful stretches of the river system.

The ramp itself is open and easy to approach, although after heavy rain, the area can collect logs, debris, and other wash-down material from upstream. Even so, it remains a popular and reliable spot for local boaters heading into the upper reaches of the Endeavour.

Boaters have noted that additional tie-off points would make solo retrieval easier and safer, particularly given the presence of crocodiles in the area. Despite that, the ramp itself is regarded as solid and dependable, with good access and plenty of room to launch.

There is a large dirt area surrounding the ramp that is ideal for rigging boats and parking your trailer boats. However, keep in mind that there are no amenities available.

Many visitors enjoy the relaxed atmosphere around the ramp, particularly in the late afternoon and evening, when the river views make for a great backdrop for photos or catching up with friends. For boat owners, it’s an especially enjoyable place to spend time on the water.

However, some visitors feel the area would benefit from a freshwater tap and more regular rubbish clean-ups around the concrete ramp.

Exploring the waterways around Cooktown offers plenty to do beyond boating alone. Fishing is a major drawcard, with opportunities for both recreational and sport fishing in the river and surrounding waters.
