Mulgrave River Boat Ramp, Ross Rd

The Mulgrave River Boat Ramp, accessed via Ross Road off the Bruce Highway at Deeral, features a two-lane concrete ramp providing straightforward access to the Mulgrave River. It’s a popular spot for estuary fishing, and many visitors also use the ramp as a starting point for scenic boat trips toward Russell Heads.

While the ramp is generally easy to use, conditions can become more challenging during high tides or periods of flooding, when water levels may overwhelm parts of the facility. As with many ramps in tropical North Queensland, extra care is required when launching and retrieving. The warm climate encourages marine algae and slime to build up on the concrete surface, making it particularly slippery underfoot and on vehicle tyres.

Boaters should also remain aware that the Mulgrave River system is crocodile habitat. Caution is essential at all times, especially near the water’s edge. Cleaning fish at the ramp or discarding fish frames in the area can attract crocodiles and should be avoided.

Facilities at the ramp include clean public toilets and access to water for washing down boats. There is generally ample parking for cars and trailers, although spaces can fill quickly during peak periods. The area may also be inundated during very high tides or flooding events. For those heading out on extended trips, longer-term vehicle storage is available nearby.

Overall, the Mulgrave River Boat Ramp offers convenient river access and good facilities, provided users remain mindful of tidal conditions and local wildlife.
