Murrays Beach Boat Ramp, tucked inside Booderee National Park at the southern end of Jervis Bay, is a solid go-to for anyone keen on boating, fishing, or just soaking up some time on the water. It’s a single-lane concrete ramp with a fixed jetty and a breakwater wall, making it a reliable launching spot, especially when the conditions are good. But take note — if you’ve got a bigger boat, you’ll want to plan around high tide. It gets shallow at low tide, and that can make launching and retrieving tricky.
It’s a well-maintained ramp in a beautiful setting, but it’s not without its quirks.
The ramp is nicely protected from the elements, but space is tight, and it can get busy, especially during weekends or holidays. If it’s packed, expect a bit of a wait and come prepared; having a second person to help with launching or parking makes things a lot smoother.
Take note though that you’ll want to be cautious if a south-westerly wind picks up it can push boats toward the rocks and make things tricky for launching or retrieving. Smaller boats usually don’t have much trouble, especially with some decent timing and a bit of help on hand.
There are no fish cleaning stations or fresh water for flushing out your motor, so make sure you’ve sorted that elsewhere. However, amenities like toilets are available, and while the car and trailer parking area has heaps of spaces, it does fill up fast on busy days, so early arrival is definitely your best bet.
Once you're in the water, though, it’s easy to see why this place is so popular. The surrounding views are absolutely stunning, and the water is crystal clear. There’s a jetty that makes boarding and drop-offs easier, and the local resident bull ray, often spotted nearby, adds a fun bit of character to the place.
It's also a snorkelling hotspot. On a sunny day with calm winds, you can spot loads of marine life such as colourful fish, cuttlefish, stingrays, and occasionally turtles if you’re lucky. That said, the currents can be strong, so good swimming skills are a must.
Fishing off the rocks nearby is another advantage here as well and lots of anglers take this opportunity to fish there.
The boat ramp is part of the national park, so you’ll need to pay a small entry fee: currently around $13, and it covers you for a couple of days. You can buy a pass online beforehand to skip the queue, which is a nice convenience.
All in all, Murrays Beach Boat Ramp is a top-notch spot for a day on the water. It’s got the scenery, decent facilities, and access to one of the most beautiful parts of Jervis Bay. Whether you’re heading out for fishing, snorkelling, or just a quiet cruise, it’s a great launching point for your next coastal adventure.
