Preddys Wharf Boat Ramp

The Preddys Wharf Boat Ramp, located at the end of Preddys Wharf Road, is a popular launching point for locals and visitors exploring the surrounding waterways. The facility currently consists of a small single-lane concrete boat ramp alongside a fixed timber wharf, offering easy access to the water for recreational boaters. Although there are only around eight designated boat and trailer parking spaces, the ramp itself is generally considered easy to use, making it a convenient option outside of peak times.

Preddys Wharf is well known as a relaxing destination for fishing and enjoying the outdoors. The wharf regularly attracts anglers targeting species such as bream and flathead. Its calm waters and accessible fishing platform also make it a favourite spot for families, with many bringing children along to enjoy a day by the river.

The location offers more than just great fishing. Visitors are treated to picturesque views stretching along the river toward the ocean, while the peaceful waterfront provides an ideal place to unwind. Wildlife is abundant throughout the area, with pelicans, resident stingrays, and a variety of birdlife often seen around the wharf. Early mornings are especially rewarding, with stunning sunrises reflecting across the water and excellent opportunities for photography. A fish cleaning station is available on-site, where pelicans frequently gather as local anglers clean their catch. Safety features, including a life ring buoy, are also provided for visitors.

The main limitation of the facility is its small parking area, which can fill quickly during weekends, holidays, and other busy periods. Arriving early is recommended to secure a parking space and avoid congestion. Looking ahead, Preddys Wharf is set to receive a significant upgrade through the NSW Government's Boating Infrastructure for Communities program. Scheduled to take place between August and October 2026, the project will modernise the facility and improve safety, accessibility, and convenience for all users.

The planned improvements involve replacing the timber wharf with an L-shaped floating pontoon, adding a kayak launch platform, rebuilding the boat ramp, restoring shoreline rock protection, leveling paved surfaces, upgrading site lighting, and providing power and water at the Marine Rescue mooring.

The improvements are also expected to reduce boat ramp congestion, encourage greater participation in recreational boating, support local tourism, and lower long-term maintenance costs, ensuring Preddys Wharf continues to serve the community well into the future.
