Tucked away on the Esplanade in Lota, an eastern suburb of Brisbane, the Queen Victoria Boat Ramp is a simple, single-lane concrete ramp that leads into the peaceful waters of Tingalpa Creek. It's best suited for small craft like tinnies and canoes, due to the area's shallow water. Just a heads-up, though; this ramp isn’t the easiest to use. It's a bit narrow, has a steep drop-off at the end, and really is more for seasoned boaties who know what they’re doing.
Timing your launch is everything here. You’ve got a decent window during peak high tide, but at low tide, it’s basically a no-go. The mud banks creep in fast, making it tough to navigate, even in a canoe. There's also a serious drop at the end of the ramp that’s deeper than it looks. Oh, and expect to get muddy; this is a mangrove country, after all.
That said, once you're out on the creek, it’s a different story. Tingalpa Creek offers calm, scenic waters that are perfect for a relaxing paddle or fishing. Anglers can expect to hook into pike, small bream, and maybe even a few midges for those chasing bait-sized action.
Parking’s a bit of a challenge. As there's no proper car park, you’ll be using the side of the road to park your vehicle. But on the plus side, right next to the ramp is a big grassy park complete with a picnic area, kids’ playground, and plenty of shade. It’s also dog-friendly, so the whole family (including the furry members) can tag along for a laid-back day by the water.
