The Rhodes Boat Ramp, located off Blaxland Road next to the Parramatta River railway bridge and John Whitton Reserve, provides easy access to the Parramatta River for a variety of recreational water activities. This single-lane concrete ramp is best suited for small to medium-sized boats.
While a wharf-pontoon sits alongside the ramp, it's in need of some attention and could benefit from an upgrade. The ramp itself is functional, but maintenance is minimal, and algae build-up is common, which can make launching a bit slippery at times.
Parking is readily available nearby, and additional parking spots are available across local walking and cycling tracks. However, the area is currently affected by nearby construction activity, so it may feel a little untidy. That said, the ramp remains a convenient option for those looking to get out on the water.
Although on-site amenities are limited (there are no restrooms or fish cleaning facilities), the adjoining reserve offers open grassy areas, shaded seating, and an outdoor fitness park, making it a comfortable place to relax before or after your trip. The setting is quite scenic too, with passing trains overhead and ferries cruising by on the river.
Fishing is also a popular activity here. From the park, anglers have been known to catch species such as shrimp, silver belly mulloway, Bluefin Atlantic tuna, and occasionally Australasian snapper.
Overall, while the ramp could use some upkeep, Rhodes remains a practical and accessible launch point with a pleasant riverside atmosphere.
