Located within the Robe Lake Butler Marina, the Lake Butler Boat Ramp is one of South Australia's premier launching facilities, offering multiple boat ramps with direct access to Lake Butler and the open ocean beyond. The main four-lane concrete ramp features floating pontoons positioned between and alongside the lanes, providing a safe, convenient, and efficient launching experience for boaters of all skill levels.
Designed with ease of use in mind, the marina offers deep-water access in a well-protected environment, allowing for safe launching in almost all weather conditions.
A large dedicated parking area is conveniently located opposite the ramps, making it easy to park vehicles and trailers close to the water.
The marina is exceptionally well maintained, with visitors often praising its clean facilities, calm waters, and sheltered location. On-site amenities include two boat wash-down stations with hoses, a fish-cleaning station, and plenty of room for parking and manoeuvring trailers. While the marina itself isn't known as a prime fishing location, it's still a pleasant spot to cast a line or simply relax by the water.
Adding to its appeal, the Robe District Council has partnered with the South Australian Government as part of the Algal Bloom Summer Plan to make boating more accessible. From 1 December 2025 to 30 November 2026, recreational boaters can enjoy free use of the Lake Butler Marina boat ramp, with no launch fees or permits required. During this period, Council will continue to manage and maintain the facility to the same high standard, ensuring there are no changes to access, maintenance, or service levels.
As part of the initiative, eligible recreational boat owners will also receive an automatic 50% discount on boat registration at their next renewal, or from 1 December if their vessel is currently unregistered. Boaters who have already purchased a launch permit extending beyond 1 December 2025 are encouraged to contact Council to arrange a refund.
