The Ski Garden Boat Ramp, located along the Ski Park near the Fitzroy Barrage Fishway in Wandal, features a two-lane concrete ramp providing easy access to the Fitzroy River. The ramp’s shallow angle makes launching straightforward, though larger boats' hulls may occasionally come into contact with the ramp. Granite rocks placed along the bank mean it’s no longer safe to pick up passengers, so some caution is needed.
The area around the ramp is well-equipped for a full day out. There’s a park with picnic tables, BBQs, playground equipment, and plenty of parking, making it an extremely kid-friendly and family-oriented spot. The shaded areas provide a relaxing environment to unwind, while the river itself offers opportunities for boating, exploring, and even letting your dog cool off with a quick swim upstream on warm days.
With new lighting installed, the area also has a different, welcoming atmosphere in the evening, which is perfect for a quiet night by the river. River conditions vary, especially after heavy rain, so boaters should be mindful of submerged trees, sand, and mud banks. Despite this, it remains a beautiful and versatile freshwater spot, ideal for picnics, camping, and exploring the river.
