The Swallow Rock Boat Ramp, located within Swallow Rock Reserve, features a dual lane concrete ramp that provides direct access to the Hacking River and is widely regarded as one of the best ramps in the Shire. The facility includes a jetty, a small beach, and a pontoon, offering plenty of space to board boats or launch kayaks and paddleboards.
While the ramp is well-equipped and easy to use, it can be tricky at times, especially when the tides are moving quickly, and is best suited for boats under 3 metres due to shallow water, with a maximum depth of around 1.1 metres at the ramp and 0.5 metres in the channel. Wind tunnel effects can also impact larger vessels.
Parking is limited, particularly on weekends and during peak periods, so early arrival is recommended. Despite the congestion, the area remains a popular destination thanks to its well-maintained facilities, including toilets, BBQs, two wash-down bays, picnic tables, and shaded seating. Families will also appreciate the small play area and open spaces for a relaxed picnic or fishing from the pontoon.
The location is peaceful during weekdays, providing a tranquil spot for boating, swimming, or simply enjoying the river. Fishing here is excellent, with opportunities to catch bream, whiting, snapper, and flathead. The ramp also doubles as a great spot for recreational activities such as stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, or even jumping off the rocks for a swim.
While mobile reception is limited, this only adds to the escape from daily distractions. Overall, Swallow Rock Reserve offers a beautiful, family-friendly setting with everything needed for a day on the water or a relaxing picnic by the river.
