Nestled in the scenic Pioneer Valley, about 50 kilometres west of Mackay along a fully sealed road, Teemburra Dam is a peaceful retreat surrounded by natural beauty. Known for its tranquil inlets and sheltered coves, it’s a place where nature takes centre stage; home to abundant birdlife, fish, and even the occasional platypus, making it a quiet escape for those who appreciate the outdoors.
The Teemburra Dam boat ramp, accessed via Lucas Paddock Road in Pinnacle, features a single-lane concrete ramp that leads directly into the dam. While functional and easy to use, its narrow width means only one boat can launch or retrieve at a time, which can slow things down during busy periods. There is ample space for parking vehicles and trailers nearby.
A range of water-based activities is permitted, including swimming, kayaking, and sailing, provided visitors follow the clearly marked exclusion zones. Boating is, of course, allowed, but water skiing and jet skiing are not permitted. Boaters are encouraged to follow signage carefully, stay aware of hazards, and keep at least 200 metres clear of the dam wall, as indicated by buoy markers.
Fishing is permitted within the dam, although onshore fishing near or on the dam wall is not allowed. Bank fishing is also quite limited due to dense weed growth and lily pads. Camping is not permitted, and visitors are reminded that pets must be kept on a leash or properly restrained at all times.
The area includes basic recreational facilities such as BBQs, along with recent upgrades completed in November 2025, which added a new shelter with seating, improved access paths, and upgraded car parking with clear markings.
Overall, Teemburra Dam offers a quiet, spacious setting that feels almost private at times. It’s best suited to boating enthusiasts looking for a calm day on the water.
