The Thrower Drive Public Boat Ramp is located within Beree Badalla Reserve, nestled between the coastal suburbs of Palm Beach and Currumbin on the Gold Coast. This dual-lane concrete ramp provides direct offshore access, with shallow sandy beaches alongside and clear turquoise waters making it an attractive and practical launch point.
The ramp is generally easy to use, with a gentle slope that suits most small to mid-sized boats.
This spot is best suited to high-tide launching, as Currumbin Creek is quite shallow in this area and not ideal for larger vessels.
Experienced boaters may consider crossing the nearby Currumbin Bar, but it should be approached with caution. Conditions can be challenging, and it’s advisable to observe local boaters or follow someone familiar with the area. The bar has been the site of several incidents, so local knowledge and careful navigation are essential.
While there’s usually plenty of parking (enough space for around 40 vehicles with trailers), it can get quite busy, especially during mackerel season. On-site amenities include a fish cleaning table with running water, waste tackle bins, signage with watercraft guidance, park benches, picnic tables, and a freshwater shower located at the far end of the car park.
The surroundings are peaceful and scenic, which is perfect for those looking to enjoy some time on or by the water. With pelicans and seagulls drifting by and the fresh sea air blowing through, the location offers a calm, natural setting that’s both functional and enjoyable.
