Tootgarook Boat Ramp sits right on the Tootgarook Foreshore in the Mornington Peninsula and gives boaters easy access to the waters of Port Phillip Bay. It’s a tidy, well-maintained little ramp with two concrete lanes that’s best suited for smaller boats. Keep in mind, you’ll probably have to walk your boat out, especially if you’re heading out during low tide.
The channel can get pretty shallow, so be extra cautious coming back in. Since it’s an open spot, it can get pretty windswept, so checking the tide and weather before heading out is definitely a good idea.
The downside here is there are limited parking spots and you could end up parking by the side of the road.
There aren’t any fish cleaning stations directly at the ramp, but there is a sheltered area where you can clean and prep your catch.
There’s also a foreshore park nearby with lots of room to kick back with a picnic or even spend the night camping. You’ll find toilets, showers, a general store, and even a coffee shop close by, which adds a nice bit of convenience to your day on the water.
While you can’t light campfires or use BBQs in the foreshore reserve, it doesn’t stop people from coming to enjoy the area. It’s in a prime location, and that draws in plenty of recreational boaters and fishing enthusiasts.
Because it’s such a good launch point, it can get a bit crowded, especially on weekends or when the summer sun’s out. But there’s something about the place that feels like a hidden gem. It’s got a peaceful, beautiful vibe, and even if you’re not launching a boat, it’s a lovely spot to take a walk and enjoy the scenery.
All in all, Tootgarook Boat Ramp offers great access to Port Phillip Bay, solid facilities nearby, and a great launching spot for anyone looking to explore the bay or try their luck fishing.
