Webb Beach Boat Ramp, Webb Beach

Located at the end of George Street in South Australia’s Greater Adelaide region, the Webb Beach Boat Ramp offers a unique launching spot with direct access to the open sea. The ramp features a single-lane boat ramp, extending from the sandy shoreline out to sea. The ramp is usually covered in seaweed.

Access to the area is via sandy and gravel tracks, with limited parking available and no formal dedicated car park on-site. There are no amenities available on site except for a toilet block.

Launching conditions can be challenging, particularly due to the soft sand and expansive tidal flats. In most cases, a 4WD vehicle or even a tractor is recommended for safely launching and retrieving boats. At low tide, the waterline can sit a considerable distance from shore, sometimes requiring a 10 to 15-minute walk from where vehicles can reasonably stop. Because of these conditions, the location is generally better suited to smaller vessels such as tinnies rather than larger boats.

Launching is typically only practical during high tide and in calm weather, as the area faces open water with little natural shelter. Baker Creek borders Webb Beach to the south and another smaller creek to the north, with wide tidal flats stretching out along the shoreline. A small residential subdivision sits back from the northern end of the beach, while basic facilities, including toilets and a small parking area, are available nearby.

The beach extends north for around eight kilometres toward a small sandy foreland and is mainly frequented by recreational fishers using boats and elevated vehicles to access the creeks, tidal flats, and gulf waters. Fishing is a popular activity throughout the area, with opportunities both on the water and along the shoreline. While some visitors also enjoy swimming, conditions are generally only suitable at high tide, as the coastline has no surf and large sections of exposed tidal flats at lower water levels.
