Austins Ferry Boat Ramp

The boat ramp at Austins Ferry, nestled in one of Tasmania’s most park-filled suburbs, is a top little spot for a day out, especially if you're visiting the area. It’s a single-lane concrete ramp with a handy pontoon alongside it, offering direct access to the River Derwent. If you’re keen on fishing in the middle stretches of the river, this is a great place to launch. It’s an all-tide ramp too, so you're not restricted by the clock.

There are PWC fenders installed for extra convenience, and the ramp itself is well-designed; nice and level, easy to use, and rarely gets crowded. Plus, it's pretty sheltered from most winds, making it a smooth experience for launching and retrieving. Just keep in mind the pontoon is strictly for loading and unloading; no fishing or diving is allowed from it.

The downside is that the car park has limited space, so it could get tight in here on peak days.

There is a small grassy park next to the ramp that has a few picnic tables and benches. But other than that, it's a great spot, especially for families. Bring the kids along for a casual fish off the banks, and you might hook some decent bream or even the occasional sea runner trout.

Adding to the charm of the place, there’s plenty of signage with interesting bits of historical info scattered around. It’s a peaceful, scenic area that's perfect for taking it slow and soaking in the calm riverside vibe.
