Located along Hammer Parade at Blackfellows Caves, this coastal boat ramp provides direct access to the open ocean via two launching lanes separated by a central fixed landing. The facility is well-suited to recreational and commercial boaters, although its exposed coastal setting means conditions can be affected by wind and weather, so checking conditions before launching is recommended.
Boaters can currently enjoy free access to the ramp, with permit fees waived as part of the South Australian Government’s Algal Bloom Summer Plan. Both recreational and commercial users can launch without purchasing a permit until 1 December 2026.
The site features a large bitumen parking area with ample room for vehicles and boat trailers, making launching and retrieval straightforward even during busier periods.
Beyond its boating facilities, the area is a popular family-friendly destination. Visitors will find a small playground, basketball court, public toilets, and a sheltered picnic and BBQ area, all conveniently located near the waterfront. The nearby swimming area provides a great place for both children and adults to cool off, while the colourful mural on the toilet block adds a welcoming touch to the surroundings.
With its scenic coastline, practical facilities, and relaxed atmosphere, Blackfellows Caves is well worth a visit whether you're heading out on the water, enjoying a family picnic, or simply taking in the coastal views.
