Cunjurong Point Boat Ramp, Cunjurong Point

The Cunjurong Point Boat Ramp sits within the relaxed surroundings of Cunjurong Point Picnic Park, offering access to the calm waters of Myrtle Gully and, further out, the open ocean. The facility features a single-lane concrete ramp that once allowed easy launching into the channel.

In recent years, however, shifting sand has built up across the ramp and the entrance channel. As a result, the area is now better suited to launching smaller craft such as dinghies, kayaks, or small sailing boats rather than larger trailer boats. Despite these limitations, the location remains a favourite local spot for enjoying time by the water. The sheltered area is ideal for swimming, kayaking and paddle sports, particularly for families with children. The water is often crystal clear and provides a calm alternative to the nearby surf beaches.

Take note that there is a noticeable tidal flow moving in and out of the channel, so swimmers and paddlers should keep an eye on conditions. The sandbanks in the area can shift regularly, meaning water depths may vary depending on tides and recent weather. Visitors frequently come here to cool off on warm days, enjoy a picnic, or simply relax by the water. The grassy park area offers a pleasant setting for a barbecue, with toilets and an outdoor shower available for rinsing off after a swim.

Plenty of parking is available near the picnic area, although space can sometimes be limited during busier periods. While the shoreline may look tempting to drive along, doing so isn’t recommended, and sections are blocked by rocks anyway. All up, Cunjurong Point is a beautiful and peaceful spot. With clear water, basic facilities and a relaxed atmosphere, it’s a great place to swim, paddle, fish, or enjoy a casual picnic by the lake.
