The Sanctuary Point Boat Ramp, located within John Williams Reserve, provides convenient access to the calm waters of St Georges Basin. The facility features a two-lane concrete ramp with a central holding jetty, making it a practical launching point for small trailer boats, kayaks, and other shallow-draft vessels.

The ramp itself is wide with a gentle slope, making launching straightforward for most boaters. However, the surrounding water is relatively shallow, which means larger vessels generally aren’t well suited to this location. Boats over around seven metres may find the depth limiting, while smaller boats, particularly those around 16 feet or with a shallow draft, tend to launch without much trouble.

Boaters heading out should also be aware of the ribbon weed beds that cover much of the basin near the ramp. In many cases, it’s a slow run of a couple of hundred yards through the weeds before reaching deeper water. Despite this, most small trailer boats manage the launch without difficulty, and many locals consider it one of the easier ramps to use around the basin.

The reserve itself is well set up and offers a range of convenient facilities. There is plenty of space for parking, including trailer parking, which helps accommodate the steady flow of boaters, particularly on busy weekends. Amenities include clean public toilets, a fish cleaning table, and a wash-down tap for rinsing boats and gear after a day on the water (just remember to bring your own hose and fittings).

Beyond the ramp, John Williams Reserve is also a pleasant spot to spend some time by the water. A small sandy beach sits nearby, along with grassy areas that are popular for picnics and relaxed afternoons outdoors. There’s also a playground close to the waterfront, making it a family-friendly destination where kids can enjoy the outdoors while adults unwind nearby.

The peaceful setting and attractive views across St Georges Basin make it a nice place to stop, even if you’re not launching a boat. Many visitors bring a coffee and a chair, enjoy a short walk along the foreshore, or simply sit back and take in the scenery.

All up, the Sanctuary Point Boat Ramp offers an easy and convenient launch point for smaller boats and paddlers, with good parking, useful facilities, and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere. While the shallow water may limit larger vessels, it remains a practical and scenic access point for enjoying the basin.
