The Swanwick Boat Ramp, located off Swanwick Drive in Coles Bay, northeast of Hobart, is a single-lane concrete ramp equipped with both a fixed jetty and a floating pontoon. It provides access to a range of waterways, including Pelican Bay, Moulting Lagoon, and the broader Coles Bay area.
While the ramp is functional and well-placed, it’s exposed to northerly winds and can be challenging at low tide. PWC fenders have been installed, but extra care is advised during strong tidal flows, as the current can be swift and the area quite open, specially when the wind picks up. If you're unfamiliar with the conditions, it’s a good idea to seek local advice before attempting to cross the barway.
Parking near the ramp is limited, so plan ahead during peak times. The setting itself is peaceful and scenic, with a nearby beach that’s ideal for a relaxed day out... think, swimming, strolling, or simply enjoying a picnic. For those staying longer, there are camping options and accommodation available not far from the ramp.
